Exploring Ta Prohm Temple at Angkor, Cambodia

by Samuel on April 5, 2013

In our latest travel video we explore Ta Prohm Temple (Khmer: ប្រាសាទតាព្រហ្ម) – made famous internationally by its appearance in Tomb Raider staring Angelina Jolie – in Angkor, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. This temple is well regarded for its losing battle with nature, as trees have literally overtook many of the walls. With more distinct ruins and piles of blocks than other temples it certainly has an eerie aura.

Samuel visited Ta Prohm back in 2008 when hardly any tourists were exploring the area; however, these days are long gone and have since been replaced by package tourist buses and crowds mainly from China and Korea. One can’t help but notice the noise pollution levels which really take over and prevent one from having a solitary experience. Although this can be frustrating we personally decided to use the crowds as a backdrop for filming time lapses. Overall, the temple is fascinating and if you can find a way to beat the crowds it’s well worth taking an extended period of time to explore.
