Choeung Ek Killing Fields of Cambodia

by Samuel on April 22, 2013

In our latest travel video we visit The Killing Fields, known officially as Choeung Ek (ជើងឯក), just outside of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This is the kind of tour where you come out with a heavy mind and heart. The atrocities that took place here leave many shedding tears while on site. From the mass graves to the brutal depictions of how innocent lives were destroyed is enough to sink you heart; however, learning about the history of this brutal Khmer Rouge regime is important. Nearly 9,000 bodies were excavated from this peaceful orchard setting. Many of those tortured (and eventually killed) came from Tuol Sleng prison in Phnom Penh. One of the most horrific details to come out from the killing fields had to do with prisoners digging their own graves before they were executed. The Khmer people are so resilient and brave to have overcome this brutal regime without visibly noticeable signs of hostility and anger.
